Starch (carbohydrates) are storage polysaccharides or polymers of glucose monomers found in plants. The polymers are made of glucose connected by the 1-4 linkage (glycosidic linkage). The simplest type of starch is amylose, which are unbranched, more complex branched polymers with 1-6 linkages at the branching point are amylopectins. 

In animals polysaccharides are stored as glycogen, which are branched polymers similar to amylopectins.

Plants (and animals) have enzymes to hydrolyze starch to glucose which is as a source of energy on cell metabolism.

List of other sugars

Amyloplast is a type of plant organelle called the plastids. It is a colorless organelle that stores starch. Amyloplasts are found in abundant in plant roots and tubers. 

Chromoplasts are another type of plastids found in fruits and flowers, they contain pigments that gives orange and yellow hues. Chloroplast are also related to plastids.
